A recap of last week's boot camp workouts:
I was able to push myself this week at boot camp, some days more than others. I think I skimped out on Altitude because it was the day after my massage, and there were some spots on my legs that were crazy sore from having Shannon get deep into the muscles.
On Saturday morning, I ran the Knock out Cancer 5k with my dog, Jack. In all of the races I have run in the past, my body always wins out over my head and I end up walking at some point in the race. I have never run an entire race....until now! Maybe it had something to do with running with Jack, but I pushed through the race and finished in 35:35. I averaged an 11.16 minute mile. Hopefully, this is just the start and I will be running the entirety of races from now on. (5ks at least)
Sunday, I took my bike out to the Silver Comet trail in the early evening. I realized I am much more comfortable on a path meant for biking instead of a road. I am not confident when I have to worry about the cars as well as myself. The Silver Comet Trail is over 61 miles long and spans from Atlanta, GA to the Georgia/Alabama state line. I have never been on the trail before, so I didn't really know what the ride would be like. I had the most amazing time! The trail is completely flat with very few turns. It is paved, and crosses most large roads via bridge and a few small roads that have traffic lights. The small roads have very little traffic.
As I came up to the first stop, I was a little nervous, as I didn't want to fall dealing the my shoes. I clipped my right foot out of the pedal as I approached the street and slowed to a stop. I put my right foot down and checked for cars. As soon as it was clear, I crossed the road and clipped back in. I came up on about 6 or 7 intersections, and I didn't fall at all clipping in and out of the pedals!
During parts of the ride, my legs felt great and I was able to get my speed up to about 20mph. I tried to keep my speed above 11 - 12 mph for the whole ride. When there were few people around, I went to grab my water bottle. In the past, I have been very wobbly at this time and have almost fallen over, but I was able to stay steady as I took a drink. I was so proud of myself, I practiced a few times on the route.
All in all, I had a great ride. I learned that you need to keep your mouth closed as you ride. I lost count of how many bugs I ate! I also have to watch the road directly in front of me because...

I almost ran over a snake! It was slithering along the path, but I managed to avoid it.
In the end, I rode 12.33 miles in almost 53 minutes. I averaged 14mph for the ride. I think when I go out for a longer ride, I may need to slow it down at the beginning so I don't kill my legs for the second half.
I didn't get a swim in this week, but I think I had a very productive week overall. I am still not doing great with the water drinking, but I am trying.
