A recap of boot camp workouts from the past week:
Wednesday was a homework day and an optional day at crossfit. I had every intention of going to crossfit, but I ended up getting 12 hours of sleep on Tuesday night! There are some times when I listen to my body, and this morning was one of them.
After the Heartbreak Hill workout, I headed back out to the Silver Comet. I am certainly getting a lot more comfortable on the bike. I rode a good portion of the trail on my aero bars. A few weeks ago, I was very wobbly, and I think I rode fairly straight while on the bars. I also had no trouble getting the water bottle out and back in. The little accomplishments get me so excited!
I rode 7.5 miles out and then 7.5 miles back. Part of the time, I felt amazing, so I was able to get my speed up and keep it up for a few minutes at a time. I did 15 miles in just over an hour.
Friday morning, I was ready for my mile. I had 9 minutes in my had and I planned on doing it. I started off at a good pace, around 8:30 or so, but as I progressed, I got slower. At midpoint, I was at 4:41, which was a little slower than the 9:00 pace I was aiming for. I pushed my way through the mile and ended at 9:36, still a great time. I was a little bummed, but I know I have more timed to get that mile down.
Saturday afternoon, I met Barry for a bike ride to Stone Mountain. It was his first time on the bike this season, so it was a relaxing, easy ride for me. The trail was nice, but there were a few more busy intersetions than I would have liked. I felt great on the bike; very comfortable. Maybe in a few months, I will enjoy that trail more. I think we did about 12 miles total.
Since I have 5 weeks until my official training plan begins, I debated long and hard over doing another boot camp session. In the end, boot camp won, and I signed up for another month. I'm not ready to be on my own just yet!
- Day 22 - 12 Pack
- A workout with bands, alternating between arms and abs. Between each set was a "short" run.
- Day 23 - Long Run
- Exactly what it says; a long run through midtown and through the park
- Day 23 - Homework
- Day 25 - Heartbreak Hill
- 4 different stations for hill work, followed by core, abs, and cardio
- Day 26 - PT Test / Veteran Workout
- All campers ran the mile. The vet workout worked our abs, arms, legs, sprints, and core.
