I think I can finally call myself a runner

It has certainly been an interesting week! A quick overview of this week's bootcamp workouts: Day 1 - The mile    Self explanatory.  Details to follow. Day 2 - House of Pain    Strength stations with cardio mixed in. The stations are lined up in the shape of a house. Day 3 - 4 Corners    4 strength stations (abs, arms, legs, core) followed by sprints and running Day 4 - Guts and Guns    cardio mixed in with abs and arms Day 5 - Wingman    Very strength focused with running "excursions" This week started out amazing.  I was pumped to be back for another bootcamp.  One of the instructors, Tom, has taken me under his wing this month to push me well past my comfort zone.  He is planning on kicking my ass all month long. Day one of boot camp is always a PT test.  Everyone in camp runs the mile together.  I wasn't planning on pushing myself; I really didn't have it in me after the weekend...

15 Miles

A recap of boot camp workouts from the past week: Day 22 - 12 Pack  A workout with bands, alternating between arms and abs.  Between each set was a "short" run. Day 23 - Long Run Exactly what it says; a long run through midtown and through the park Day 23 - Homework Day 25 - Heartbreak Hill 4 different stations for hill work, followed by core, abs, and cardio Day 26 - PT Test / Veteran Workout All campers ran the mile. The vet workout worked our abs, arms, legs, sprints, and core. I woke up on Monday feeling the ride from the day before, but still feeling good.  I enjoy the workouts that focus on arms and abs because there is typically a little less cardio.  Its nice to spend time working on proper form. Wednesday was a homework day and an optional day at crossfit.  I had every intention of going to crossfit, but I ended up getting 12 hours of sleep on Tuesday night!  There are some times when I listen to my body, and this morning was ...

Jello Legs

A recap of last week's boot camp workouts: Day 16 - Altitude Adjustment Stairs, stairs, stairs, and stairs Day 17 - Abilicious An entire workout focusing only on abs and core Day 18 - Centipede A cardio workout with a few strength aspects Day 19 - The Crucible A very leg intensive workout with 4 stations  I started off the week with very sore legs.  On Monday, I went to my sports massage, which I have every 3 weeks.  I was so tight!  From all of the swimming, biking, and boot camp, every part of me needed to be worked out and realigned. I was able to push myself this week at boot camp, some days more than others.  I think I skimped out on Altitude because it was the day after my massage, and there were some spots on my legs that were crazy sore from having Shannon get deep into the muscles. On Saturday morning, I ran the Knock out Cancer 5k with my dog, Jack. In all of the races I have run in the past, my body always wins out over my head ...

Biking, Biking, Biking

My first 2 a day knocked me out!  It is certainly something I am going to need to get used to. A recap of the most recent boot camp workouts: Boot Camp Day 10 - Trip Wire     A combination of different jump rope exercises and abs Boot Camp Day 11 - Airborne Ranger     Suicide sprints with varying degrees of hills Both days of boot camp were pretty rough.  I pushed myself extremely hard on the suicide sprints. Friday morning, we had an off day for boot camp, so I took my bike to the park.  I was able to get on and off the bike without falling this time! I did 5 miles through the park in 25 minutes.  I'm still getting used to biking with the clips on, but with each lap around the park, I felt more comfortable. There are certain areas of the park that are hilly, and I definitely struggled to get up the hills.  I'm not great with switching gears yet.  When i start going up or down a hill, I am aimless switc...

Gaining Confidence

The first week of boot camp was rough! I have a long way to go to get myself ready for September. A quick recap of the last few boot camp workouts: Day 5 - Squad Leader This workout was all about the quads.  We did every possible exercise for the quads - from squats, lunges, mission impossibles, stairs.... Day 8 - House of Pain A full body workout consisting of 5 stations with different exercises at every station and each time through Day 9 - Guts and Guns Exactly what it says.... abs and arms.  This workout uses resistance bands for the arm portion of the workout. I pushed myself each day except for Monday.  I didn't sleep much, and just didn't have it in me to push on the cardio portions of the workout. On Saturday, Paulabeth took me out for what she thought was to be a 10 mile bike ride.  When I told her I was a non-biker, I don't think she actually believed that I didn't really bike around town as a kid. Once she found that out, she planned out a 5...
