"Eventually you realize that the only competition is against the voice inside your head that wants you to quit."
Welcome to the off-season. This is a triathlete's dream; Sleeping in, eating dessert, spending time with our friends and family who we probably forgot about during the summer. My problem - I am lazy. I had no interest working out. I let myself go for sure.
I was signed up to race a Half-Marathon in Las Vegas in November and a Full Marathon at Disney in January. I was not trained for Vegas and I didn't feel the need to spend all the money to make the trip out there for a training run. Instead, I ran an 11k and then a Half Marathon in Atlanta. Interestingly enough, I ran faster than I have ever run before.
I recently purchased the Adidas Energy Boost shoe and they are Magic. I attribute all of the fast running during this time to those shoes!
After months of pain training for Ironman Louisville, I finally decided to go to the doctor for my shoulder. I was re-diagnosed with tendinitis of the rotator cuff and bicep. I received a steroid shot and was prescribed physical therapy. I went to therapy and things got better, but not quite perfect. I used this time to stop swimming and get my shoulder ready for the 2014 season.
For the rest of the off-season, motivation was still lacking, and I decided not to run the Disney Marathon. I decided instead to focus my efforts on finding my motivation, volunteering, and running. January was half over and I had a lot of things lined up for the spring!

Off-season races:
- Route 2 Change Duathlon - This was my first planned duathlon. While in terrible shape, it was lots of fun!
- Village to Village 11k - New race distance for me, but my avg pace was 30 seconds faster than my 10k PR.
- Atlanta Half Marathon - 6 minute PR. I ran this completely untrained!
- Reindeer Romp 5k - 15 second PR. I still didn't break 30 minutes so I wasn't thrilled with this result.
