It's 5:30 PM, on race day eve, and I am sitting at a crappy hotel with my mom relaxing as best as I can. I thought I would take this time to share the goals I have set for myself for tomorrow's race.
Main Goals
The ultimate goal for this race is to have fun. I have worked my ass off for the past 6 months and this is the celebration of all that hard work. I want to finish the race strong and smiling. I don't want to think "if only I had trained just a little more...."
Time Goals A
Swim:20 minutes
T1: 2 minutes
Bike: 3:20
T2: 2 minutes
Run: 2:30
Total: 6:15
Time Goals B
Swim: 23 minutes
T1: 2 minutes
Bike: 3:30
T2: 2 minutes
Run: 2:40
Total: 6:38
The A goals are a big stretch for me. The pros do the swim really fast. We swim with a current, so I am really having a lot of trouble judging just how fast this swim will be. As I dropped my bike off today, I saw that there is a gigantic hill I have to run up as soon as I get out of the water. I don't know where the swim time ends, but the hill could affect it.
I may have underestimated my transition times. The transition area is bigger than I have ever seen! As I was dropping my bike off looking for my number, transition just kept going, with no end in sight. If I can run fast through this area, Ihave a shot at hitting my transition goal times.
I have set the bike at a 17mph pace. This is my ultimate biking goal, so I really hope that I can do this. It is a stretch though, as I have only done 17mph in 1 race before and it was a sprint.
The run is completely flat through downtown Augusta. While my fastest half marathon is a 2:34, I really think that I can do this run faster. My running has improved so much since I started this journey, and it has improved even more in the last 6 weeks since the half marathon PR.
So there you have it; my goals. Keep them in mind as you track me throughout the day.
The only one who can tell you 'you can't' is you. And you don't have to listen.
