I know what you are thinking. "Sheryl, are you still training? We haven't heard from you in a while." I have not been slacking at the training, just at the writing! I have been working so hard for the last few weeks.
I took off the day after the triathlon at lake Hartwell and hopped right back in the pool for a Monday night Swim. This swim was a little rough. We did a ladder, starting at 100, going up to 400 and then back down to 100. I felt great doing the set, but it wore me out.
I took off Tuesday night, because of the Peachtree Road Race the next day. My mom and I woke up early and Scott dropped us off at the 10th St Marta Station. The train was extremely crowded. Its a good thing we rode the train while everyone was fresh and clean instead of on the way back after everyone is stinky!
We got off the train in Buckhead and walked to the start. My mom was racing in wave G and I was in J, so I said goodbye fairly early and headed by my lonesome to J. I positioned myself towards the front of the group and started to stretch out. As the race started, we walked closer and closer to the start line. I turned on my GPS watch and was ready to go. All of the sudden my watch beeps. Low Battery!!! Right as we are getting ready to start, it turns off!
I make sure to note the time as I cross the start line because I have no other way to know what my time is during the race. The run felt good, but I had no idea how fast I was going. I expected the course to have clocks at each mile to let us know how we were doing, but there was nothing. Around mile 3.5, cardiac hill, I was starting to push myself. I really wanted to run the whole race and that involved running up this hill as well. Unfortunately, I stopped and walked. From there, the race was run - walk the rest of the way. I was very disappointed in myself and had a yelling contest in my head at myself.
As I approached the finish line, I had no idea what my time was. All I knew was that I was walking a lot more than I wanted to. As I crossed the finish line, I looked up at the clock. I had run in a 1:13:26. This is a PR! While I should be super excited that I just ran a best time, I really wasn't. I was disappointed that I walked so much at the end.
I didn't do any training on Thursday, since I had raced the day before. Friday I had my sports massage, which helped loosen me up from a week of racing. Saturday morning, we headed out of town where I planned on running or swimming, but that didn't happen. I spent a well deserved week relaxing in Roatan, Honduras.
